If No One Remembered You: A Reflection in Motion

Have you ever wondered what you would do if you woke up and no one remembered you?

Think of Peter Parker at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, when he walks into the café and MJ has no idea who he is.

It’s a strange question—unsettling at first—but when I thought about it on a recent hike, something unexpected happened. I didn’t feel fear.
I felt presence.

I imagined waking up and seeing my loved ones with no memory of me. And rather than panic, I felt a deep sense of gratitude.

Grateful that they’re still here. That I could choose to meet them again, with the love and wisdom I’ve gathered. Maybe even show up more fully this time.
Start on a new foot. Isn’t that a gift in disguise?

As I watched my kids run ahead (my husband attempting to wrangle the pack)—wild, laughing, refusing to sit still—I reached for my camera. Trying to catch them in motion is its own form of meditation.

Their energy was untamed and free, and for a moment, I was just there. Watching. Smiling. Grateful.

Grateful that I get to witness their joy. Grateful for the gift of noticing.

And even if they didn’t remember me, I thought—I would still choose to love them.

Next time you’re on a hike, surrounded by trees or in a quiet moment of stillness, try this What If scenario:

What would you do if you woke up one morning and no one remembered you?

Let it take you somewhere. Let it unlock something—fear, hope, longing, or maybe just a deeper connection to right now.

Let’s see what we find.
